Supporting our shared practice

“There are these four ways of being inclusive. Giving, kindly words, taking care, and equality.”
-Buddha
Aṅguttara Nikāya 4.32

Membership means showing up, offering care, and helping to sustain the Buddha’s teachings for everyone. Membership is not required to attend NBZ events or to participate in the life of our sangha.

Choosing membership is just one way to help support No Barriers Zen and help keep the Dharma accessible for all. It’s also a way to belong, and we welcome you.

Shānti

(Steadfast Presence)

Shānti members are those who return — to the cushion, to the zendo, to the people they practice alongside. That returning is itself the offering.

Financial support and volunteer time are welcome, but neither is required to be a member of this sangha. Shānti membership asks only for presence: the kind that is steady, compassionate, and willing to keep showing up.

Sampatti

(Resource Patrons)

Sampatti patrons offer material and financial support that helps sustain the temple, its programming, and continued care of the community.

Any amount -given monthly, quarterly, or yearly- helps maintain the conditions for practice, accessibility, and care. If you already give regularly, you are a Sampatti member.

Sevā

(Selfless Service)

Sevā is the practice of offering your time, skill, and care with an open hand and steady attention. Sevā members help sustain the daily life of the temple by supporting programs, tending shared spaces, and caring for one another. Service is itself a practice of generosity and presence.

We always gratefully welcome new volunteers. If you have a skill, an idea, or simply some time to give, please reach out, we would love to hear from you.

Dharmapalas

(Guardians of the Dharma)

Dharmapālas are those whose deep generosity reaches forward into the future, sheltering the sangha across time and helping ensure the Dharma remains alive and accessible for generations to come.

Through significant gifts or institutional partnership, Dharmapālas help sustain what endures — long-term programs, the care of our shared space, and the conditions that make practice possible for all. If you feel called to give at this level, we invite you to reach out.
